Team Member Spotlight : Colby Smyth

Colby Smyth, also a lifelong resident of Vienna, has a deep affection for his hometown. During his childhood, he was very involved with VYI sports and engaged in various charitable efforts. He graduated from Marshall High School and went on to West Virginia University in Morgantown, where he pursued a degree in Advertising and Public Relations, complemented by a minor in Communications. At WVU, he was a dedicated member of the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi and also played for the club golf team. Colby’s interest in Real Estate was sparked at a young age, influenced by his father who was a renowned architect in Northern Virginia. This early exposure provided Colby with knowledge and insights into the components of a home, which gave him an advantage when he first entered the industry directly after graduating from WVU. Colby’s career began in 2011 at Long & Foster – Tysons Corner and in 2013, he was recruited by Casey to join his team at Samson Properties. Over the years, Colby has invested in renovating homes for resale, combining his architectural insights with practical experience to create spaces that not only appealed to buyers but also maximized investment returns.

Casey also knew that his daughter Morgan, who had been in sales since college, would be a perfect addition with her style, training, and outstanding track record. Upon joining the team, Morgan began converting our listings from seller-comfortable “Traditional” style, to buyer-friendly “Transitional” style, with huge success. While “Traditional” looks dated, “Transitional” homes attract larger buyer pools, sell quicker, and generate higher priced contracts without contingencies. With Colby’s background and extensive knowledge of residential properties and Morgan’s sales training, professionalism, and eye for style, this dynamic duo complements each other perfectly to the benefit of their sellers and buyers. Their techniques consistently return sellers $7-$10 for every dollar invested, and Samson Properties has taught this approach to their 5800+ agents. They use the opposite approach and the same pricing tools for buyers, providing them with the home value and how to take advantage of seller and realtor mistakes. Colby and Morgan’s thoroughness and attention to detail constantly push the bar higher whether it’s representing the home online, engaging with buyers and other realtors or hosting open houses. The combination of their home prep procedures and unparalleled contract negotiation skills has made them a huge success, gaining them a constant flow of referrals from satisfied clients.
